Chula Vista, CA – Fatal Collision on I-805, One Death and Two Serious Injuries

Chula Vista, CA (August 16, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early Friday morning on Interstate 805 in the Chula Vista area, claiming the life of one individual and leaving two others with significant injuries. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash involved a single vehicle, a white Toyota Camry, which struck a sign base on the northbound side of the freeway near the H Street/E Street & Bonita Road exit.

The incident took place at approximately 6:57 a.m., just north of Telegraph Canyon Road. According to CHP Sgt. Daniel Ralph, the circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear. However, the impact was severe enough to cause substantial damage to the vehicle. Upon arrival, first responders discovered that one person had been ejected from the vehicle and was found deceased at the scene. Two other occupants were trapped inside the car and required extrication by emergency crews. They were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries. The conditions of the hospitalized victims are currently unknown. The CHP is conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether the deceased individual was ejected due to the impact or if other factors were involved.
