If you are injured, make sure you go to the ER (Emergency Room). If you continue to have pain, immediately follow up with your doctor so you can have proof if the insurance company doctors try to mislead a jury into believing you were not injured from the accident.
Notify the police. It is a good idea, if possible, to get a police report because sometimes people change their story after an accident.
Get crucial information. Obtain contact information from the other driver or drivers, such as name, address, phone number name of insurance company, and if possible, their insurance policy number.
Identify witnesses. Obtain contact information from any witnesses.
Do not discuss fault. Do not blame the other driver or admit fault.
Document damage. Take photographs of the vehicles involved from multiple angles.
Contact an attorney prior to speaking with any insurance company, including your own.
While it is still fresh in your mind, write a note to yourself afterwards with any and all details you can remember about the accident that you can remember (exactly what happened) while it is fresh in your mind.
Protect your rights. Get legal advice from an experienced, and trusted, personal injury attorney.
