N Hollywood, CA – 2 Killed in Box Truck Crash on 101 Fwy at Tujunga Ave

North Hollywood, CA (June 17, 2025) – Two people were killed early Tuesday morning, June 17, in a crash involving a box truck on the westbound 101 Freeway near Tujunga Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident happened around 2:20 a.m. A black Kia SUV was stopped for unknown reasons in the westbound lanes when the crash occurred. The female driver and a male passenger had exited the vehicle and were standing outside when a box truck struck both the Kia and its occupants.

Both individuals died at the scene. Their names have not been released, but officials confirmed that one of the victims was an employee of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Video footage from the scene showed the box truck heavily damaged and resting against the center divider. The crash led to a full closure of the westbound lanes of the 101 Fwy at Tujunga Ave, as well as the westbound 134 Fwy connector.

All lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m., though traffic remained backed up for several hours.

Authorities are still working to determine why the SUV was stopped in traffic lanes.
