Crestline, CA (September 23, 2024) – A fatal motorcycle accident occurred early this morning on State Route 18 near Crest Park Road, resulting in the tragic death of a motorcyclist. According to reports, the incident took place around 5:43 AM on September 23, when a black GMC Sierra collided with the motorcycle. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) quickly responded to the scene following reports from witnesses and those involved.

Initial reports indicated that the driver of the GMC Sierra was possibly unresponsive following the crash, leading authorities to initiate further investigation. At 5:44 AM, officers attempted to make contact with the responsible party, but there were complications in establishing communication. Emergency services were also alerted as calls for assistance grew increasingly urgent.

As authorities investigated the situation, it was revealed that the motorcycle rider was found down in an undetermined lane of State Route 18. The motorcycle was reported to be in a precarious position, blocking the road, which posed a further hazard for passing motorists. In response to the severity of the incident, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office was requested to join the investigation, as the scene required urgent management.

At approximately 6:22 AM, the coroner was dispatched to the scene, confirming the tragic loss of the motorcyclist’s life. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of family members. Road closures were implemented soon after, with the northbound lanes of State Route 18 closed at Rim of the World Highway and the southbound lanes at Highway 173 to allow authorities to investigate and clear the scene.

By 9:23 AM, the CHP called for the removal of the motorcycle, and a flatbed tow truck was dispatched to assist with clearing the debris. The vehicle was towed from the scene shortly thereafter, and by 10:52 AM, the roadway was officially reopened, allowing traffic to resume normal flow.
