Los Angeles, CA – Child Killed, Two Injured in Car Crash on Woodman Ave

Los Angeles, CA (June 19, 2025) – A tragic crash in Sherman Oaks claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and injured two others on Wednesday, June 18.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene around 10:17 a.m. The crash happened on Woodman Ave when a gray Lexus sedan slammed into a parked yellow GMC moving truck.
Authorities said the boy’s mother, a woman in her 40s, was behind the wheel. She crashed while movers were unloading items from the truck and had set out cones as a warning.
The 12-year-old, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died at the scene. His twin brother and mother were rushed to the hospital. Both are now in stable condition.
No one else, including the movers, suffered injuries in the crash. The cause of the accident is still under review. Police have said that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be involved.
Investigators are continuing to gather details. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family during this hard time.
Fatal Car Accidents in Los Angeles
Car crashes are a leading cause of injury and death in Los Angeles. In cases involving parked vehicles, the outcome can be especially tragic. Though these crashes may seem avoidable, they often occur due to driver distraction, fatigue, or sudden health issues. In some cases, poor visibility or improperly marked hazards can play a role.
In 2023, Los Angeles recorded more than 300 traffic fatalities, with many victims being pedestrians or passengers. Children are particularly vulnerable, especially when they ride in the front seat or are not properly restrained. While California law allows children over 8 years old to ride in the front, safety experts still advise children to sit in the back whenever possible.
Victims and their families often face long-term challenges after fatal crashes. Medical bills, therapy, funeral costs, and emotional trauma add to the burden. In cases where a child dies, the grief and financial strain can overwhelm families. While no amount of money can replace a lost life, legal action can help ease the burden and hold negligent parties accountable.
A wrongful death claim may help families recover damages for funeral costs, emotional suffering, and future income loss. When injuries are involved, victims may also seek compensation for hospital bills, lost wages, and ongoing treatment. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help guide families through this process, ensuring their rights are protected.
Attorneys can investigate the crash, gather witness statements, and consult experts if needed. This support allows families to focus on healing while the legal team handles the details. Navigating insurance claims and legal deadlines can be stressful, but professional help can make a major difference in the outcome.
