Long Beach, CA – Scooter Rider Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver on Orange Ave.
Long Beach, CA (May 13, 2024) – A 17-year-old boy was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Long Beach over the weekend. The incident happened on Sunday, May 12th around 12:40 a.m.
Police were dispatched to Orange Avenue near South Street upon reports of a crash. When they arrived, authorities found the teenage victim lying in the roadway. The boy had been riding a self-propelled scooter when he was struck by an SUV. Officials attempted life-saving treatment, but ultimately the victim succumbed at the scene to his injuries. The SUV driver fled the scene and later crashed into an apartment building on Orange Avenue. She was arrested and charged with hit and run resulting in death, gross vehicular manslaughter, and assault with a deadly weapon with force. The woman was arrested and booked into jail with a $130,000 bail. There is no further information available at this time. An investigation is underway.
