Long Beach, CA – Fatal Injury Crash at Studebaker Rd & Los Santos Dr

Long Beach, CA (June 24, 2025) – A two-car collision near El Dorado Park left one woman dead and another person injured on Sunday afternoon, June 22.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:07 p.m. at the intersection of Studebaker Road and Los Santos Drive. Investigators say 86-year-old Julieta Ayala, a local resident, was driving a 2015 Toyota Corolla west on Los Santos Drive when she reportedly stopped beyond the posted stop sign. This placed her car in the path of a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado traveling north on Studebaker Rd.
The two vehicles collided inside the intersection. Ayala was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 45-year-old man from Long Beach, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with police. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Detectives with the Long Beach Police Department are continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the LBPD Collision Investigation Detail.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim. We also wish a rapid recovery to the wounded individuals.
Fatal Car Accidents in Long Beach
Fatal car crashes in Long Beach continue to impact families and communities across the region. While the city has worked to improve traffic safety, crashes like the one at Studebaker Rd and Los Santos Dr show how a momentary misjudgment can lead to devastating outcomes.
Older drivers, such as the 86-year-old woman in this incident, may face challenges with reaction time, visibility, or depth perception. These factors, combined with complex intersections or fast-moving traffic, can increase the risk of serious collisions. At the same time, intersections remain one of the most common sites for car crashes nationwide, as drivers must make quick decisions amid changing traffic patterns.
After a fatal accident, victims’ families often struggle with grief while also managing practical and financial burdens. Funeral expenses, lost household income, and emotional trauma can weigh heavily. In California, surviving family members may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. This type of claim can help cover burial costs, loss of companionship, and other damages.
For survivors with non-life-threatening injuries, the road to recovery can still be long. Medical bills, missed work, and physical pain can create major disruptions. A personal injury claim can help an injured driver or passenger seek compensation for those costs.
