Beverly Hills, CA – Four Injured in Apartment Fire on S Gramercy Pl
Beverly Hills, CA (November 15, 2024) – An injury fire at a two-story apartment building in Beverly Hills resulted in four individuals being injured, with one requiring transportation to the hospital. The incident, reported by the Beverly Hills Fire Department, occurred early in the morning on November 14, at approximately 8:42 a.m. at 427 S Gramercy Pl, a residential complex. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene after a 911 call reported smoke emanating from the first floor of the building.
According to fire officials, the blaze began on the first floor of the fourplex and quickly spread to the basement. Firefighters engaged in an aggressive firefighting effort to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further. However, the situation was complicated by the presence of lithium-ion batteries, including several scooter batteries, which posed additional hazards. Firefighters worked in coordination with Hazmat teams to safely remove these batteries and mitigate the danger.
Four individuals were injured in the blaze. Two of the victims, a male and a female, were rescued from the building, with one in critical condition and the other suffering from smoke inhalation. Both victims were quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. A third victim was rescued from the basement, and the fourth, also suffering from smoke inhalation, was treated on scene.
We extend our support to the victims as they recover from their injuries.
Injury Fires in Apartment Buildings: A Growing Concern in California
Fires in apartment buildings are a significant risk in California, with over 1,100 multi-family fires reported in 2022 alone, leading to numerous injuries and fatalities. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), apartment fires tend to result in higher injury rates due to the proximity of tenants, complicating evacuation and rescue efforts.
The rise in fire incidents is also linked to the increasing use of lithium-ion batteries in devices like scooters and e-bikes. Improper charging and storage of these batteries have caused several high-profile apartment fires, including one in Los Angeles in 2022 that injured five people. In response, fire departments are ramping up public education efforts and pushing stricter fire safety codes to reduce these risks.
If you were injured in a fire, it’s essential to seek medical attention immediately, smoke inhalation and burns can worsen over time. If the fire was caused by negligence—such as poor maintenance or faulty wiring—you may be able to file a claim for compensation, including medical expenses and pain and suffering.
